I read so many free ebooks. So many guides. I downloaded book after book. I ended up with a whole host of expensive doorstops.

Some things helped a little, then they wore off. I felt like I was going around in circles....

Until I learned some amazing truths...

My name is Katie, I'm originally a vet, and now a mindset coach, content creator, and keynote speaker.

Six years ago, I felt like I was outright deceiving everyone with all those letters after my name. No number of good case outcomes, accolades, awards, or gifts of thanks could change that for me. I remedied this initially by staying at work longer hours, creating an armoury of qualifications, and being a dab hand at "I'll be happy when...".

That was unsustainable. I ended up anxious, persistently worried, and seeking therapy. This got me out of a hole, but it didn't give me me.

Over the next six years, I learned and trained in techniques that were simple, extremely effective, and could be used on a daily basis to not only gain confidence, self-value and a sense of achievement but to know exactly how to face imposter syndrome. This included training in CBT, becoming a BC trainer and being mentored by one of Bob Proctor's top consultants.

I now coach and mentor many high achieving vets and professionals to see their own true value, learn how to deal with that negative critic and move forward confidently.

But... coaching isn't available to everyone. My 1:1 slots are now booked up for the next 3months.

What didn't work?


I heard numerous times, just focus on the facts and but your thoughts in a box. Which worked for a while, until that pesky negative inner critic got its way out of the box, shouting a proverbial "a-ha!" on the way out.

"Set some bigger goals"

I obtained my goals of being a vet, gaining a certificate, becoming the senior clinician. I still didn't feel enough. Someone was still about to find me out.

Maybe I just needed to do something BIG to squash the inner critic.

"Feel the fear and do it anyway!"

I set bigger goals and when I didn't achieve them straight away, it became a self-fulfilling prophecy.


I read more books than hot dinners. There always seemed to be something missing, or whatever I tried just diminished with time.

"stop your limiting beliefs"

Yes, beliefs are super powerful, but I felt like I was playing "Whack-A-Mole" with limiting beliefs.

I'd change one, and then that inner critic would pop up with another.

I didn't know when they'd ever end.

I never knew that real change was just one level up from this.

Often, we all feel like we are in a civil war. A civil war between part of you that knows you have worked hard and earned all of your qualifications, vs the part that tells you that it was all a fluke and that you're about to be found out.

This can lead to the following:

  • Struggling to accept praise and positive feedback.

  • Discounting your own success.

  • You may be described as a perfectionist.

  • You may stay behind at work for hours longer than expected

  • You are worried about "failing".

  • You often compare your successes to others.

  • You focus on what you haven't done, rather than what you have.

  • You feel like you didn't earn your qualification, or someone will take them from you.

  • You feel like you are "winging it".

  • Feeling like you got "lucky" or anyone could have done the same.

Then this can lead to effects such as:

  • Anxiety and worry.

  • Lack of self-praise.

  • Opportunities being passed up on.

  • Lack of job satisfaction.

  • Avoidance of new tasks.

  • Career changes.

  • Over-working and exhaustion.

  • Feelings of frustration and isolation.

  • Continuous concern over "being found out."

I struggled with imposter syndrome as a veterinary surgeon for many years. Despite certificates, loyal clients and accolades, life felt like a big cover-up. I was left stagnated, worried and unsure how to progress. I just wasn't sure I'd ever be happy.
